Early Saturday morning, as the sun struggled to come through the clouds, an enthusiastic group of young artists gathered in front of the Tessie W. Norris Library to color the sidewalk with their imaginative chalk art. The children participated in the Cochran-Bleckley Arts Alliance’s 3rd annual Sidewalk Art Contest. The contest was open to children from Pre –K through twelfth grade, and prizes were awarded in three age divisions – primary, elementary, and middle/high.
Winners in the primary age group were Paige Bryant (1st place), Levi Arnold (2nd place), Kailey Bryant (3rd place), and Eliana Agnew (4th place). Winners in the elementary age division were Ellen Arnold (1st place), Andy Jones (2nd place), Alex Jones (3rd place), and Julia Arnold (4th place). Winners in the middle and high division were Adryana Newbry (1st place), Jarrett Rogers (2nd place), Kwang Seo (3rd place), and Sierra A (4th place).
Event organizers were pleased with the record crowd who attended the event : “3rd annual and best ever attendance.” In addition to the Sidewalk Art contest. The Arts Alliance is planning to host a Jazz Night in the spring and also hoping to bring back the popular instrument petting zoo this fall. Currently, Erin NeSmith is giving art lessons on Thursdays in the Arts Alliance building.
